In the past
decades, the lowest and most saline water of
the earth has dropped by one-third of its
volume. The Dead Sea well known for these
two characteristics is in danger to
disappear if actions are not taken place.
People from all over the world go to this
place because its water, rich in minerals,
helps the human skin as well as rheumatic
disorders. Others just go there for
relaxation time. <<The Dead Sea has been
central to civilization for 10,000 years,>>
said Bruce Feiler, author of several
best-selling books. He explains on one of
his books how God after Lot’s wife looking
back was <<turned into a pillar of salt.>>
Then the Dead Sea was born.
Others might say something different about
this place, but its natural power to give
some kind of relief on people its recognized
by many. Its salt concentration is 10 times
higher than ocean water, about 33% versus 3
%. Its unique chemical composition makes it
remarkable. But even with all these good
properties and qualities that the Dead Sea
has, its water is falling. Gidon Bromberg,
director for Friends of The Earth Middle
East, says <<The Dead Sea is dying…the Dead
Sea is shrinking. It is falling by a meter
in depth every year.>> Many sinkholes are
created as the water disappears. It becomes
dangerous to approach the sea in certain
spots.
What is it affecting the Dead Sea to make it
shrunk every year? There is a massive
evaporation. Its most natural sources comes
from the Jordan river. This river has been
narrowed down because many farmers use it
for irrigation. So its fresh water coming
from the Jordan is being reduced highly.
Building a canal that would bring water from
the Red Sea to save the shrinking Dead Sea,
Bromberg said that it might not be a good
idea. <<We’re highly skeptical because it
would be mixing marine water with that
unique mineral composition that we find here
at the Dead Sea,>> Bromberg said.
The Dead Sea is on a need of a water
transfusion to be saved, and people are
skeptical that the Red Sea could help out to
bring it back to renovation. Dear friend,
our life is very similar to the Dead Sea
problem. Your life could have good deeds
every day but the things we do to please our
own selfish desires, brings us to a dry
life. It brings us to a massive evaporation
of peace in our soul and heart. And not even
ourselves could bring us back to renovation
just like the Dead Sea, we can only do this
from an unique sources of life outside from
ours. Jesus while speaking to a woman about
a true living water said to her <<…whoever
drinks of this water will thirst again, but
whoever drinks of the water that I shall
give him will never thirst. But the water
that I shall give him will become in him a
fountain of water the springing up into
everlasting life.>> (Jn. 4.13-14)
We can only stop having sinkholes of
loneliness, depression and sorrows when we
truly let Jesus gives us of His water. Let’s
drink of His water today so we could have an
abundant fountain of water that will spring
up into everlasting life. |
